Steven Naismith gets ringing Hearts player endorsement as fans told results will come

It hasn’t been plain sailing for Naismith since his Jambos appointment

Steven Naismith is still to win over the Hearts fans but one of his players can’t speak highly enough of his manager.

Aidan Denholm worked with the now first-team manager in the B team last season but then appeared to be on his way out of the club as previous boss Robbie Neilson opted to release him as he couldn’t see a pathway into the first-team for the midfielder. But Naismith ended up being promoted to the top job to replace him and reversed that decision.

The 20-year-old is happy to be able to play for a manager he loves and is thankful for the opportunity to further his career at Tynecastle with his boyhood club. Denholm, a fan himself, is aware of the frustration surrounding some of the team’s early-season performance, but he is optimistic that the management and team can establish consistency.

“I owe him everything,” he declared. He is really intelligent. He’s been a welcome change of pace. He was my boss on the B team, and I admired the way he led us in playing. He and I had always gotten along great. He had a keen sense of what was going on, even off the pitch.

He was the first person to call me and speak with me when I was told I had to leave. After I had a trial at Wigan, he contacted me to say he had gotten the job and didn’t want to let me go as I was driving back up the road with my dad. He has influenced me more than anyone else.

“Look, I support the Hearts, so I want us to succeed. It’s certainly disappointing when we don’t get results, but the supporters are vocal and have a strong sense of purpose.

They have the same desire as any other fan base to see their club succeed. Our recent run of form has not been simple. We’ve had wins, draws, and losses; we need to start being consistent. I have faith in the group we have. I think we can accomplish that with ease.

He’s been the biggest influence in my career. I’ve had a lot of brilliant managers but he has been the best. Not just on the pitch, just off it. I can’t speak highly enough of him.”
