Lawrence Shankland to Rangers transfer debate sparks heated ‘brains’ question as glowing Kris Boyd contrast floated

The Hearts captain has been linked with a move away from Tynecastle following his impressive form this term.

During an on-air discussion on whether Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland could join Rangers, Barry Ferguson jumped to Shankland’s support.

In the Euro 2024 qualifier, Shankland saved the day for Scotland by coming off the bench to help Steve Clarke’s team salvage a point. As the January transfer window draws near, the Jambos will only be able to raise the price they will pay for their top player and acting captain. Shankland has been the talk of the town as Hearts have had an outstanding run of play and the Light Blues and Celtic both want to add more firepower this winter.

However, an unimpressed caller to the Go Radio Football Show went in cold against the beloved Hearts player, stating Shankland was unable to play for either of the two Glasgow giants. “You are saying £3million – he is not worth £3million,” a furious Derek yelled. He only scored 10 goals through open play and 14 penalties. Not a very nice return.

He plays for a mediocre team and is not very good, thus he is not interested in playing for the Rangers or the Celtics. He doesn’t seem smart enough or talented enough to play in that area, in my opinion.”

However, Ferguson responded bluntly to the contentious decision, saying, “I disagree. Lawrence Shankland seems like he could play for the Rangers.

 

Rangers have previously signed players from Scottish teams. I’m not suggesting he is as excellent as Kris Boyd, Steven Naismith, Kenny Miller, or Billy Dodds, but he has made progress. He’s a goal scorer in my book. And no offence to Hearts, but as a player for a stronger side that scores more, he will be given more chances and goals. I do think he would be a good player for Rangers.”
