Sky Sports: official announcement imminent as Rangers secure latest signing

Rangers have agreed a new three-year contract with Northern Ireland international Ross McCausland.

That’s according to Sky Sports, who claim that Rangers have put an end to much speculation surrounding the 20-year-old by agreeing a new deal.

With the contract yet to be announced officially by the club, the broadcaster appears pretty adamant that Ross McCausland has committed to Ibrox until 2027.

This follows on from reports in the press that Rangers were closing in on a deal for the former Linfield talent, who has impressed since breaking into the team this season.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement had also hinted that a deal was nearing completion ahead of the weekend’s trip to Pittodrie.

Rangers strike Ross McCausland contract

Whilst Ross McCausland made his debut before this campaign, it’s this season that has seen the winger emerge as a genuine option in the Rangers squad.

Having been involved in eight of the club’s last ten matches, the winger has only failed to get off the bench in the League Cup semi-final win over Hearts and the Europa League draw away to Sparta Prague since Philippe Clement has taken charge.

Having been handed a first start for the club in the 2-0 win over Livingston, McCausland also earned his first Northern Ireland cap during the recent international break.

Coming off the bench in the weekend’s 1-1 draw with Aberdeen, as Rangers prepare to announce the Ross McCausland contract it’s now on the winger to kick on at Ibrox.

Potential homegrown hero?

As Ross McCausland’s first-team exposure has increased at Rangers, so has reported interest in his services.

Premier League side Brentford and Serie A club AS Roma have been credited with an interest, whilst Sky Sports claim there have been clubs “across Europe” monitoring the player’s situation.

Rangers have also prevented one of their top talents leaving on the £350k development fee that’s been bandied around in the press.

The fact that Rangers have tied such a highly-rated winger down on a new contract is obviously a positive, but the situation also brings the club’s homegrown struggles under the spotlight.

Having been trained at the club’s Academy, Ross McCausland will qualify as a homegrown player for Rangers in European competition.

The Ibrox side’s struggles with the UEFA squad registration rules has been well documented with the Scotland squad a glaring example of the club’s shortcomings.

Now set to commit to Ibrox until beyond his 23rd birthday, fans will hope the winger can succeed where other Academy talents have failed and cement a place in the starting XI.
