Angels to signing two-time Cy Young award winner this offseason.

Pitcher Blake Snell, a free agent and two-time Cy Young winner, is reportedly “very interested” in joining the Los Angeles Angels this offseason. The news was reported by MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

Whether Shohei Ohtani plays again or not, the Angels have stated that they are not going to rebuild and that their goal is still to win next season.

That feeling was confirmed with the hiring of Ron Washington, a 71-year-old man who has no interest in starting over.

This report from Feinsand only serves to reinforce the Angels’ desire to succeed in 2024.

Since Yoshinobu Yamamoto hasn’t yet made an MLB appearance, Snell is among the best starting pitchers available and possibly the most reliable option.

Despite being only 25 years old, Yamamoto has the most potential, but Snell has won the Cy Young award twice and is coming off a year in which he was nearly unhittable.

In 2023, Snell won his second Cy Young award for the Padres with an MLB-best 2.25 ERA and 234 strikeouts.

Just in time for his free agency, where he will undoubtedly make a tonne of money on the open market, he had one of his best seasons ever.

The Angels are currently in transition while they wait for the Ohtani decision. They do, however, obviously want to win, and Snell would be a great addition to help them get there.

With the exception of Ohtani, the Angels starting lineup struggled in 2023; having Snell lead the group going forward would be ideal for this team.

Though realistic, it’s encouraging to see the Angels concentrating on bringing in big names this offseason and making a sincere effort to win in 2024.
