Last night he said on X, formerly Twitter, that he had been found “safely” by police in Looe. Leyton Orient Football Club, where Mr Macklin had also once worked, also confirmed he had been “found safe”.

According to the BBC, Mr Macklin, who also previously held posts at Southend United and Essex County Cricket Club, left his role at AFC Wimbledon on September 8.

Posting on X, Mr Macklin said he had been found “safely” by police and would now “seek the help I need and sorry for the terrible pain I have caused so many and then seek to rebuild my career/ life”.

Leyton Orient, also posting on the platform, said: “Danny has been found safe this evening. Thank you to all supporters for the help you have provided today.”

This Tuesday, November 28, the FA charged Mr Macklin with misconduct. The charge relates to an allegation that he made abusive and sexist comments about a female colleague.

An FA statement added: “It’s further alleged (the charge) constitutes an ‘aggravated breach’ as the language included a reference – whether express or implied – to gender.”

Mr Macklin has until December 6 to provide a response. AFC Wimbledon said at the time that the club acted to “promptly resolve” the incident, with Mr Macklin leaving his role at the League Two club on September 8.
