Aaron Rodgers did not take long to respond to the latest rumours regarding Zach Wilson’s unwillingness to take back the starting quarterback position for the New York Jets.
The Athletic reports that the Jets were thinking about going back to Wilson following two poor outings from Tim Boyle, who was cut on Tuesday. Wilson was apparently reluctant to return to the starting lineup because of the injury risk involved in playing behind the team’s improvised offensive line. He has also been benched three times by the coaching staff, which could have added to his resistance.
The 40-year-old quarterback used his platform during his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show to criticise what he saw as an attempt to damage Wilson’s reputation.
“I have a real hard time with that when you use sources and, whether intentional or unintentional, try to assassinate someone’s character like that report does for Zach,” Rodgers remarked. “It sounds like you’re saying that this kid is giving the organisation the finger, quitting the team, and not wanting to play.”
In addition to the sourcing, which most likely originated from within One Jets Drive, Rodgers acknowledged that he had issues with the reporting conducted by Dianna Russini and Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
What spurs you on? Why are you trying to bury someone in that manner? stated Rodgers. And that’s an issue with the company. There’s no place in a winning culture where — and this is not the only time — we don’t investigate this thoroughly and take private measures to end it. Numerous other leaks have occurred.
Regardless of the coach leading the team, Rodgers is starting to see why the New York Jets have been such a dysfunctional organisation. Even though he brought some baggage from Green Bay, he has added to the issue, but nobody really anticipated the Jets to go through four quarterbacks and have a 4-8 record at this point in the season.
At its core, Rodgers said, “I think it’s chicken****, and I think it has no place in a winning organisation.”
And for good reason—the Jets have the longest playoff drought among professional sports in North America.
