Following the addition of several relievers this offseason (Aaron Bummer, Reynaldo Lopez), the Atlanta Braves have seen some of last year’s relief options sign with other organisations.
Following the signing of reliever Kirby Yates with the Texas Rangers, reliever Michael Tonkin has found a new home with the New York Mets. It’s a one-year contract earning a rumoured $1 million.
Tonkin, 34, pitched 45 innings for Atlanta in 2023, going 7-3 with a 4.28 ERA. Tonkin, one of the major long relievers, tossed 80 innings with 75 strikeouts and 23 walks.

How long until pitchers and catchers report?
68 days. Atlanta’s expected to ask pitchers and catchers to report on Monday, February 12th, in advance of their first spring training game on February 24th against the Tampa Bay Rays. An official announcement of the reporting date will come in January.
