Hearts player make ‘£6 million’ claim amid Lawrence Shankland transfer’

Lawrence Shankland is fast becoming the talk of transfer season with Rangers rumours swirling

The January transfer window opens in less than a month, and for Hearts fans across the city, one big item is on everyone’s mind: Lawrence Shankland.

Following a goal slump early in the season, the current Hearts captain has been on fire up top, netting 13 goals in 25 games.

Not only that, but in the penultimate Euros qualifying match last month, the 28-year-old scored Scotland’s important equaliser against Georgia. He’s only been at Tynecastle for a little over a season, but rumours of a move down the M8 are starting to circulate.

The recent AGM in Gorgie revealed that Hearts chief executive Andrew McKinlay is adamantly opposed to releasing their top scorer and hopes to hold talks with the ex-Dons player to extend his contract beyond the summer of 2025. McKinlay also stated that only a “exceptional” offer would compel the board to contemplate selling its most valuable asset.

Following this revelation, Jambos fans were quick to express their feelings about their skipper, with many implying that an offer to play for the league’s 55-time champions would be far too enticing to turn down.

One Facebook user asked, “What incentive does he have to sign a new contract?” The club is far too reliant on its sponsors on him and he does need better quality alongside him.

“With Aberdeen receiving the millions we should have received through Europe, where are we going to get the money for better?” Aberdeen will spend the money on upgrades for next season.

“Unless the board gets someone in to run and fund the club alongside FoH, that season we were in Europe was a one-off.” Shanks will not sign a new contract unless this occurs.

Others were eager to keep him: “Get a new contract in place and slap a release clause of £6mil on him if anyone wants him pay up and we will invest in the squad.”

“We must pay whatever he desires in order to keep him.” In the club.At the time, he is the only one scoring goals for us. We are unable to sell to other Scottish clubs.

“Look at all the other Scottish players at top Premier League clubs; if we sell, get him down there.” But we need better players, as well as a 100-minute stint in the maroon jersey. Our supporters are the finest.”

However, one Jambo realist believes that “if he has any sense, he will probably go his last big move for decent money.” Nothing against Hearts, but they are a third to fifth-place club in a low-level league, which I presume is due to his ambition.”
