Sheffield United youngster Oliver Arblaster could be set for a lengthy spell on the side-lines after picking up what looked like a serious injury last night.
Arblaster has been a regular fixture for Vale this season and started last night’s League Cup quarter-final clash with Middlesbrough.
However, the 19-year-old Blades loanee lasted just under an hour before going down and writhing in agony on the floor.
Arblaster appeared to catch a hefty blow to the knee and speaking after the game, his manager, Andy Crosby, admitted it didn’t look good for the teenager.
“Ollie’s is a much bigger concern. It was a really deep gash around his knee and I think it’s gone right down to the bone, so he’s obviously in a lot of pain. He’s just gone to hospital now so obviously he’s our number one concern at this moment in time,” Crosby said.
Arblaster is seen as one of the top emerging young players at Bramall Lane. The young midfielder impressed the previous coaching team, with Stuart McCall admitting he’d caught the eye in training.

It’s no secret that United have had a rotten run of bad injuries and it seems that the bad luck is carrying over into our loan players.
Of course, it matters little if there is a ‘curse’ or not. The most important thing is young Arblaster is well looked after and crucially, gets back fighting fit ASAP.
Hopefully, this one might settle and be less of an issue than first look. The stretcher coming on and how Arblaster reacted did not look good and it’s good he’s gone on to hospital for treatment.
With a bit of luck, Arblaster can be patched up and there’s no lasting damage.
