The latest Aston Villa news as the FA have released a statement after frustrations boiled over in the final minutes of the Premier League clash on Sunday.
The Football Association has charged Aston Villa twice following late altercations during Sunday’s Premier League match against Brentford.
Ten yellow cards and two red cards were given to each team at the end of the game because the last few minutes of play saw tempers flare. Most of the cards were displayed after Villa came back from behind to win 2-1 thanks to a goal from Ollie Watkins in the 85th minute.
With Brentford leading 1-0 at the time, the first red card of the match was shown. Ben Mee’s straight red card for a challenge on Leon Bailey was the result of a VAR review; manager Thomas Frank disagreed with this decision.
The seventh minute of added time saw Villa reduced to ten men of their own. When a player got into a brawl, midfielder Boubacar Kamara raised his hands to his opponent’s face and received a straight red card.
The last twenty minutes or so of the game saw several incidents, including this one. Villa and Brentford are both charged, according to a statement from the FA, and they have until Friday to file a response.
Following their Premier League match on Sunday, December 17, Brentford and Aston Villa were charged with violations of FA Rule E20.1, according to the statement.
The statement added, “Aston Villa also allegedly failed to ensure that their players did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way during the 85th minute,” after confirming the charges against Brentford. Furthermore, it is alleged that the club neglected to make sure that players on the tier or those occupying the technical area did not act inappropriately, provocatively, or violently in the 98th minute.
“Until Friday, December 22, Brentford and Aston Villa have until to provide their responses.”
