Nick Chubb suffered a gruesome, season-ending knee injury in Pittsburgh on Monday Night Football.

Nick Gilbert, the son of Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert and something of a good-luck charm for the team in past NBA Draft lotteries, died in May at the age of 26. At 15 months, Nick was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis, a hereditary illness that can relate to three separate conditions that generate tumours. The Cavaliers named their 2022-2023 season after Nick, who became famous for his slogan “What’s not to like?”
Before a regular-season game in January, Cavs guard Donovan Mitchell observed a young man sitting courtside holding a banner that said, “Donovan, I’ve come all the way from Australia to see you play.” Mitchell approached him, autographed the jerseys he was wearing, and posed for a photo with him.
“This is a tragedy,” Amari Cooper said.
Losing to the Steelers wasn’t anywhere close to the loss felt by Browns fans as they learned Nick Chubb wouldn’t play for Cleveland for the remainder of the season. Chubb suffered a gruesome injury during the second quarter of Cleveland’s Week 2 game against Pittsburgh that would require two surgeries.

Cleveland needed a quarterback after it was reported that Deshaun Watson would miss the rest of the season due to a shoulder ailment that necessitated surgery. Joe Flacco, who joined the Browns before their game against the Denver Broncos, was brought in. Flacco began for the Browns a week later, and he was designated the team’s starting quarterback for the rest of the season a week after that.
After being the heartbeat of Cleveland baseball for nearly 50 years, John Adams died in January of 2023 at 71. Fans, former players and current Guardians officials paid tribute to Adams at his funeral in early February at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Cleveland.
