Rangers hold internal agreement over transfer of 177 goal scorer for January move.

Rangers held talks about re-signing Alfredo Morelos prior to signing Fabio Silva on loan from Wolves, according to The Fourth Official.

Writing on his website (28 December), the journalist reports there were suggestions of bringing the Colombian hitman, who has scored 177 career goals, back to Ibrox but they were never taken too seriously.

After spending five years with the Rangers and leaving at the end of his contract in the summer following a disappointing final season marked by disciplinary and fitness issues, Morelos was released by Santos and is now a free agent.

He wrote, “In fact, there were also discussions about getting Morelos back to the Rangers, but thankfully, those discussions were never taken too seriously.”

Without a doubt, Rangers needed a striker in the January transfer window, so the news of Fabio Silva’s signing before the window even officially opened is excellent.

It would have been a terrible idea, but some fans were so desperate to get someone in with our limited funds that Morelos was actually pushed as a possible option.

The Colombian was a crowd favourite while he was here, but when the relationship started to get toxic, the summer was the ideal time for both sides to break things off and move on.

It is a bad idea to even entertain the idea of bringing back Morelos or Ryan Kent because this is a new era at Ibrox and under Clement we should be looking forwards, not backwards.

Fortunately, it appears to be a non-starter at this point, so fans don’t need to pay it any mind. Instead, we can focus on witnessing a young, eager talent succeed.

In other Rangers news, following Silva’s deal, the team is targeting another striker, according to “Decent Chance” Rangers.
