Birmingham City are looking for a new manager to replace the departed Wayne Rooney, although key members of his back-room team remain
Birmingham City’s chiefs would like to see Ashley Cole and John O’Shea stay at the club despite the departure of Wayne Rooney.
That’s according to Sky Sports who are reporting Blues are reviewing their coaching structure following Rooney’s dismissal and that – in accordance with their club statement earlier in the week, both men have remained to help out interim head coach Steve Spooner.
Indeed, with Carl Robinson also following Rooney out of the door, the three will prepare Blues for their FA Cup trip to Hull City this weekend.
Beyond that most things are up in the air, although Sky Sports did say that neither Chelsea legend Cole, nor former Man Utd defender O’Shea are in the running to take over as No. 1.
The report admits that whatever the hierarchy’s desires regarding the two coaches, the decisive factor will be who takes over from Rooney and what their intentions are regarding the back-room team.
John Eustace, Lee Carsley, Jesse Marsh and Tony Mowbray remain on shortlist to succeed a manager who lasted just 15 games and produced only two wins.
Eustace left the club after 15 months in charge having defied relegation in his first season and guided the team to sixth in his second.
