Michael Beale left Rangers on Sunday night, and one of the early favorites to replace him is a former member of Leeds United.
Following the firing of Michael Beale, Jesse Marsch, the former manager of Leeds United, is one of the early favorites to take over at Scottish Premiership team Rangers.
Rangers released a statement saying that Beale’s “results this season have fallen short of what everyone connected to Rangers would expect” after a 3-1 home loss to Aberdeen on Saturday.
Rangers started the Scottish Premiership season with four victories and three losses, which put them in third place after the loss to Aberdeen. Although St Mirren are above them in second place with 15 points, they are already seven points behind Celtic.
According to Betfair, Kevin Muscat is the 5/2 favourite to be named his permanent successor with ex-Chelsea and Brighton boss Graham Potter priced at 4/1. Marsch is the third favourite at 7/1 while former Leeds favourite Marcelo Bielsa is fifth in the betting at 17/2. Bielsa signed a contract with the Uruguay national team earlier this year with the task of helping the South American nation qualify for the 2026 World Cup in Canada, USA and Mexico. Meanwhile, Marsch has been out of work since being sacked by Leeds in February following a poor run of form, with the Whites ultimately relegated later that season.
He managed 37 games during his brief tenure at Elland Road, winning just 11, drawing 10, and losing the remaining 16. He spent little under a full year in command there.
He declared in March that he had taken some time off since leaving Leeds and that it had given him a chance to think back on various elements of his time there.
“When I reflect on my time at Leeds, I will be really proud of our accomplishments, such as staying up in 21/22.”I’m also appreciative of getting to know some wonderful individuals in Yorkshire and working with a terrific team of players and staff. I’m taking my time to think about the best course of action, but in the meanwhile, I’ll be spending time with family and friends.
Following his dismissal at Elland Road, the former Leeds manager was on the verge of accepting the posts at Southampton and Leicester City but ultimately declined both offers. He last appeared on television during Newcastle United’s Champions League match against AC Milan, while he was employed by CBS Sports, last month.
