The incident happened a few blocks from Hard Rock Stadium soon after the game ended
After the Miami Dolphins failed to clinch the AFC East title during Sunday’s heartbreaking loss to the Buffalo Bills, a fan leaving that game was shot to death, police in Miami Gardens confirmed on Monday.
Investigators are trying to identify the alleged gunman, who fled the scene of Sunday’s shooting.
Bystanders told CBS News in Miami they heard at least four shots rang out.
The incident happened a few blocks from Hard Rock Stadium soon after 11:15 p.m., when the game ended.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue were summoned to the scene just before midnight.
The victim was declared dead at the scene, according to the investigators.
The man appeared to be leaving the area while walking through traffic with his girlfriend and a few of his friends. It was reported that the victim, his friends, and someone in a car got into a fight.
At that point, an unknown individual got out of a car and began shooting at the group.
The gunfire had begun just after Jae Jackson had left the gym.
“I tried to talk to [the shot man and] I was holding his hand,” Jackson stated. “When his girlfriend arrived, she told him he was courageous. There was hope when he actually raised his arm at that precise moment. Maybe thirty seconds later, his eyes rolled up, and that was the end of it.”
The victim’s age and name are still unknown.
By defeating the Dolphins 21–14, the Bills won the division championship for the fourth consecutive season. The records of both teams are 11-6.
