Wednesday in talks to sign Coventry on permanent basis

Well, it would seem as though Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri will be opening the chequebook.

Danny Rohl revealed his Wednesday shopping list in terms of the positions he requires after Saturday’s win over Cardiff and one deal could now be edging closer.

The Star now claim that Wednesday are in talks to sign West Ham’s Coventry on a permanent basis this month.

Wednesday Coventry

The midfielder is out of contract with the Hammers in the summer and now it would appear that Coventry is going to be allowed to leave.

Who is Conor Coventry?

The talented player is a defensive midfielder and he’s a product of the West Ham youth academy.

Regular game time has been hard to come by for the 23-year-old at the London Stadium and he’s made just 10 appearances for the club.

Coventry has left the Hammers on a number of loan spells, with his most recent move seeing him make 16 appearances for Rotherham.

Peterborough have also taken him on loan. During his time with Posh, he was called ‘wonderful’ by Darragh MacAnthony and he played 12 times at London Road.

Now, it looks like the right time for Coventry to leave and a move to Wednesday could prove ideal.

The Owls are keen to add another midfielder to their ranks. Coventry would likely play plenty of football at Hillsborough and he’d have a real chance to put down some roots.

As a London-born player, leaving West Ham might prove somewhat daunting.

However, Wednesday would be a club that would give him regular football and under a progressive manager like Rohl, it could be the perfect step for his career.
