Stoke City striker they want for January transfer hunt’

News from the bet365 Stadium as Stoke City aim to add to their first two signings of the January transfer window.

Stoke City have identified ‘the type of player and what person’ they want to add to their strike force in the January transfer window, according to Steven Schumacher, but will have to be patient to complete a more complicated transaction.

Stoke have brought in two loan players this month: goalkeeper Daniel Iversen from Leicester and midfielder Luke Cundle from Wolves, both of whom played under Schumacher at Plymouth Argyle earlier in the season. There is still a must-do list in the final three weeks of the window, and Schumacher has gone on record as hoping to bolster up front.

“We hope so,” he remarked this afternoon when asked how the hunt was going. “These things take time, especially with forward players; you find it complicated with how deals work, but I believe we’re on the right track. We know what type of player and person we want to bring in; it simply takes time for that to happen.

“I am satisfied with the two guys we have brought in thus far. Daniel Iversen has done quite well, and we saw Luke Cundle in training this week. I know him very well, and he will undoubtedly contribute to the club; ideally, he will not be the only addition we make.

Exits are also possible this month, though none are currently planned.

Schumacher stated, “That’s potentially out there, but at the moment, because the squad hasn’t been at full strength, moving people out hasn’t been a major concern of mine.” So far, boys are not knocking on my door expecting their game time to be limited because the squad has been weak.

“I’m confident that by the end of the month, we’ll have had discussions about whether we need to transfer individuals out, whether we want to move people out, and whether a player believes he’d be better suited playing somewhere. We have not had those types of chats yet.”

Enda Stevens has spent significant periods of time in the medical room, while his deputy Lynden Gooch (calf), Junior Tchamadeu (international duty) and Jordan Thompson, who served a one-match ban last weekend, have all been unavailable. Stevens has returned to training this week, but he will not be ready to face Rotherham on Saturday.

Schumacher continued, “There are a few areas of the pitch that we want to strengthen.”
