Rangers defender Ben Davies is behind schedule on his recovery from an injury which ruled him out of the club’s winter training camp in Spain.
Ibrox manager Philippe Clement has been talking about the absence of the centre-back, who was not involved in the mid-season friendly clashes with Hertha Berlin or FC Copenhagen.
Ben Davies clarified that he is not yet prepared to train with his Rangers teammates, adding that he was supposed to report back to full training in time for the La Manga trip.
Ben Davies’s injury is delayed
Working with the Rangers medical staff to increase his level of fitness, the centre back hasn’t appeared on the field since the team’s victory against Real Betis in the Europa League in December.
Indeed, Clement said, “Ben Davies is still injured.” “He’s not there yet to train with the group, but he’s working individually with the physiotherapists.”
“I expected him back this week but it’s not the case so I don’t want to make (predictions), I want to let the medical staff work with players,” Clement said in response to a question about a timeframe.
Some people heal quickly, while others take longer.
Large expectations were placed on the 28-year-old defender, who was signed from Liverpool in the summer of 2022, but he hasn’t lived up to the hype in his 18 months with the team.
Although the player Liverpool moved to sign from Preston North End has shown glimpses of his potential, injuries have only made him less effective.
The most recent Rangers blow is Kieran Dowell.
Ben Davies isn’t the only concerning injury update from the manager’s press conference; the Rangers manager also mentioned Kieran Dowell.
Although the Ibrox coach revealed to RangersTV that Dowell and Sterling were both suffering from injuries, Clement went into more detail when the show aired.
It had been unclear why Kieran Dowell had not shown up for the La Manga training camp, but the Rangers manager has now disclosed that the midfielder sustained an injury in Spain.
Kieran Dowell, 25, will be sidelined for at least two months due to the devastating issue, which is a follow-up to another long-term injury he suffered at Ibrox back in August.
“Kieran Dowell was not present today due to an injury he sustained in La Manga. He will be absent for a few weeks,” Clement stated.
“I anticipate that he will be absent for about two months. Thus, that’s a major setback for this week in the long run.
Although Ben Davies and Kieran Dowell’s injuries are concerning, Rangers have benefited from the return of several important players during the break.
