Coventry City lingering contract issues in January transfer window….

Halfway through the January transfer window, Coventry City has let go of one player and signed another, leaving supporters eager to find out if any more business will be completed before the deadline on February 1 at 11 p.m.

The first player to depart was Yasin Ayari, who was sent to Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers for the second half of the season after being called back from his season-long loan with the Sky Blues by his parent club Brighton in the opening week of the transfer window. Victor Torp was then acquired by Mark Robins last week after the team spent £2.1 million on the Danish midfielder, who had been drawing attention with his strong play in the Norwegian premier league.

Although Torp can play in a variety of central midfield roles, Robins has made it clear that he is not a stylistic replacement for Gustavo Hamer. Fans will be interested to see what the 24-year-old can bring to the team once he returns to full fitness after missing five weeks due to the Scandinavian winter break.

There are still unanswered doubts about whether any of City’s senior players will be leaving this month and whether Doug King will again reach into his pocket—or at the very least, drain the club coffers—to make a huge transfer that will assist the team battle for promotion. The Sky Blues have been playing quite well lately, moving up from 20th place on 19 points just a few weeks ago to sixth place on 40 points. With 19 league games remaining and the prospect of a respectable cup run to go along with it, they are in a strong position to push for the play-offs.

Naturally, Callum O’Hare’s contract issue and future have been the other major discussion points.
