Josh Doig will now complete a “bumper move” to Sassuolo on Friday (19 January) amid interest from Rangers, according to The Times.
The paper reported via their website on the same day that the left-back is leaving Hellas Verona for the fellow Italian side for £5million with an additional £850,000 in add-ons.
The Light Blues were interested in the Scot but ultimately didn’t follow up with a formal bid, despite his previously expected move to Marseille collapsing.
It is thought that Doig, 21, was in Milan on Thursday night to complete his medical examination and “thrash out” the last details of his personal terms for a four and a half-year contract.

Given how uncertain Ridvan Yilmaz’s future is, Rangers would have definitely made an official push to bring Doig to Ibrox if money hadn’t been an issue.
Given that the Turk was rumoured to be close to moving to Verona earlier in the January transfer window, it would have seemed to have worked out well for everyone if he had switched places.
However, with Doig costing more than £5 million, and Yilmaz refusing to leave until the Gers receive an offer they can’t refuse, according to Philippe Clement (Sky Sports, January 17), it seems to have been financially unfeasible.
Whether Rangers would have been better off at this point in the season had they opted to spend big on Langoni when they first had the opportunity is impossible to determine.
That’s a lot of money to spend on any player, let alone a young player whose adaptability to the SPFL is uncertain.
However, the winger, who has 10 goals in 45 games for his team, is good enough that Fulham, Sevilla, and Nice, respectively, are interested in signing him for the Premier League, La Liga, and Ligue 1.
