In Tuesday night’s ELF Trophy match at the Weston Homes Stadium, Peterborough United had some challenges, according to defender Romoney Crichlow of League Two Crawley Town.
Before they had to concede a 2-1 loss, Crawley made an impression with their aggressive football and upbeat attitude.
The visitors seized the lead early on, and Jed Steer’s outstanding save late in the contest ensured that Posh would advance to the quarterfinals. If Darren Ferguson’s team defeated Chesterfield in the Trophy final, they would earn a trip back to Wembley for the first time in ten years.
Posh had a nervous ending after missing a number of excellent opportunities to score. After a corner in the second half, Crichlow struck the crossbar with a close-range effort.
Crichlow remarked, “Crawley played some excellent football and were very expansive.” We had to deal with their mischievous behaviour when we were accustomed to it.
“We had trouble starting, but as we squared up to them, we seized command of the game.
We take great pride in these games. We obviously want to win every game, and this one put us within two wins of Wembley.
Since few teams will be able to handle the pace of our front three, we tried to build into the game and make the pitch as large as possible.
“I was furious when I hit the bar, and I could have scored two goals.” That one should have been mine.
