Forest 22-year-old now wanted by overseas club – Fabrizio Romano’

This is according to Fabrizio Romano.

So, what is the situation with Panzo – and will he leave Forest before next week’s deadline? Let’s take a closer look

Standard Liege want Jonathan Panzo from Nottingham Forest

Well, it would appear as though the centre-back’s days at Forest are now numbered.

Panzo has played just once for the Reds since Steve Cooper signed him from Dijon in January 2022.

The player was a respected member of Cooper’s under-17 England team that won the World Cup in 2017.

With Forest winning promotion to the Premier League within six months of joining, the chances of game time for Panzo were restricted.

Now, Fabrizio Romano claims that Panzo is being eyed by Standard Liege who would like to take him on loan.

The Belgian club would also like to include an option to buy the 23-year-old during the summer transfer window.

Forest must cut defender loose this month

It’s a bit of a shame that Forest can’t just agree to sell Panzo before the summer at this stage.

The Reds have never seen the true Panzo and he’s been out on loan to Coventry and Cardiff in recent times.

Last season, he helped the Sky Blues reach the Championship play-off final and came on at Wembley.

During the first half of 2023/24, he endured a pretty turgid time at Cardiff and was recalled having barely featured.

Now, a move to Belgium with Standard Liege looks to make a lot of sense for all parties.

Forest would need to register him in their 25-man squad to give him a go and that simply won’t be happening.

With that in mind, Forest have to do whatever it takes to get rid of Panzo this month and get another player off the books.
