Fourth in the Championship standings is Leeds United. This month, Daniel Farke’s team has been pursuing defensive reinforcement; they had previously set their sights on Ben Godfrey.
The Whites are only two points away from securing automatic promotion. It appears like Southampton and Ipswich Town will not be easily defeated, and Leeds United will require every ounce of support to keep up with them this season.
Only three Championship appearances hath Souttar, 25, made for the Foxes this year. On deadline day of the previous season, the central defender from Stoke City moved to the King Power Stadium. He hasn’t exactly taken off in Enzo Maresca’s system, though, so the Australian international may be moving again.
According to reports, Leeds United is considering making an unexpected move to sign Souttar, who has also been connected to a late switch to Sheffield United.
A solid addition
Leeds United would be getting a very strong defender should they manage to pull this one off, and with Premier League competition it remains to be seen whether the Whites have the capabilities to compete and tempt the 25-year-old.
Souttar is currently at AFCON with Australia so may not be available for a short while yet, but it doesn’t appear as if this will have any impact on a potential move today.
In January of last year, Leicester City reportedly paid £15 million for the defender. Whether this arrangement would be a loan or a permanent one is still up for debate. If the latter, reaching an agreement on the sale won’t be cheap or simple.
With little over 12 hours remaining, teams are trying to assemble their squads in order to be ready for the last sprint.
Leeds United’s next match is tomorrow night at Ashton Gate against Bristol City. In another match, Stoke City, Souttar’s previous home, is visited by Leicester City.
