Trevor Lawrence maintains his optimism despite the Jaguars’ unlikely opportunity to pursue Tee Higgins.
Though it would be shocking if Tee Higgins didn’t play for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2024, NFL fans still have hope and dreams for their team.
However, there are still those like quarterback Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars who believe that Higgins coming to Jacksonville would be a perfect fit.
“I’d be shocked if Cincinnati released him. That is not going to occur, in my opinion. However, it would be fantastic to play with Tee if the chance arose, Lawrence told Yahoo Sports’ Jason Fitz on Radio Row.
“You know, we’ve texted a little bit back and forth. And the league is funny. You just never know how things are going to work out. So many factors are at play. But of course that’s a guy that I played with that we have a great chemistry. Great player. I would not be upset at all if he came to Jacksonville.”
In short: it would be an amazing outcome for the Jaguars and Lawrence if Higgins were to somehow become a free-agent and land in Jacksonville, but don’t hold your breath.
And that has nothing to do with the Jaguars, either. Higgins is a young, productive top-level talent at a key position, has played with Lawrence in the past, and would fill a void the Jaguars have in their receiver pecking order.
But every single year the same thing happens to most of the top projected free agents. The franchise tag is the likely outcome for Higgins considering the Bengals’ available cap space. He would be one of the best free agent receivers in recent history if he was available, but the odds of that actually happening are slim at best.
Still, fans — and Trevor Lawrence — can dream.
