Watford brought up their contentious match with Reading after Jurgen Klopp demanded a replay of Liverpool’s loss to Spurs.
After Klopp requested a repeat of the Liverpool vs. Spurs match owing to a VAR blunder, Watford jokingly requested a replay against Reading.
When a “ghost goal” was incorrectly given in a 2008 match against Reading, Watford recalls the unusual incident.
Given the rarity of replays in English football for contentious judgments in the past, it seems unlikely that Liverpool will receive one.v
What transpired between Reading and Watford?
The match, which at the time was a Championship match, is well-known in English football because it featured one of the strangest moments in history when the Royals were mysteriously given a goal.
The ball rolled out of play, a few yards past the post, as Watford’s John Eustace challenged Noel Hunt for possession of it.
Even though the Royals players protested, the linesman had signaled for a goal, and referee Stuart Attwell had given the “ghost goal,” which gave Reading the lead right away. It would result in a 2-2 tie.
After the game, Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd said that he had “never seen anything like it” and questioned whether Reading should have allowed them to tie the score.
It was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Mistakes like that are like a UFO landing. I’ve seen the referee, and truthfully, he just bases his decisions on what the linesman says. He is part of a team, therefore I assume he must comply if someone whispers in his ear that he has been assigned a goal.

Even though VAR proved that Luis Diaz was in fact onside when the offside flag was raised, Darren England neglected to alert referee Simon Hooper that the call needed to be reversed.
Following the revelation of audio from the event, Klopp expressed his opinion that a replay of the match should be conducted.
Watford respond to debate about replays
As many fans can point to judgments going against their clubs in the past, the concept of a replay has not been well received outside of Liverpool.
Although Liverpool will undoubtedly claim otherwise, the ‘ghost goal’ is unquestionably comparable given how absurd the judgment was.
In a humorous post, the Hornets’ social media account also requested a recreation of the incredible incident from all those years ago as they uploaded video of it.
