A major new project to help tackle rural crime by tracking stolen agricultural vehicles has been unveiled in Bedfordshire.
The CESAR scheme is the latest initiative funded by the county’s Safer Streets project, which is focused on tackling neighbourhood crime issues such as anti-social behaviour and burglary.
Bedfordshire farmers will now be eligible for a new half-price discount on DataTags, which have been shown to assist law enforcement in recovering stolen farm equipment.
“The CESAR scheme is a known deterrent against criminality on farms and allows the police to easily identify farm vehicles and machinery,” Chief Inspector Jim Goldsmith stated.
“Police officers can get assistance from the CESAR registration database, which is available around-the-clock, 365 days a year, when they are inquiring about equipment seized under questionable circumstances from individuals they believe might have stolen it. It is possible to verify the ownership of a machine instantaneously by checking the equipment.
“This will undoubtedly have an effect on lowering the levels of agricultural crime in Bedfordshire and is an invaluable tool for both farm owners and the police.”
The new £40,000 programme was introduced by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
“We are confident that this half price offer on CESAR data tagging systems will be a much welcomed and popular security measure among our local farmers, giving some reassurance with the security of their vital equipment,” stated Commissioner Festus Akinbusoye.
