HOUSTON (Friday, Feb. 23, 2024) – The Houston Dash and forward Cece Kizer have agreed on an extension keeping the striker in Houston through 2025.
Kizer rejoined the Dash earlier this year following a trade with Kansas CIty Current on Jan. 17. The forward’s first stint with the team began after Houston selected Kizer No. 13 overall in the 2019 NWSL Draft from the University of Mississippi.
“Cece fits right into the style of play we are implementing as well as what we’re building on and off the pitch,” Dash general manager Alex Singer said. “She has shown her qualities that make her the attacking threat she is in the league. We’re happy she wants to be here in Houston, look forward to working with her for the coming years, and are excited to watch her impact as we continue to drive this team forward.”
Kizer has played in four NWSL seasons and scored eighteen goals during the regular season. 2022 saw him score a career-high seven goals, assisting Kansas City in winning the NWSL Championship.
The forward played a significant role in the Dash’s first-ever trophy victory as a member of the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup team. In the tournament final, Kizer played 61 minutes of regulation time, helping the team defeat the Chicago Red Stars 2-0.
Kizer remarked, “It feels like a complete circle moment.” “I’m happy to be rejoining the company that gave me an opportunity when I first turned pro. I believe I can contribute significantly to this group since I am a completely different player than I was when I first came. I’m thrilled to be returning and serving as Houston’s representative for another two years.
The 2024 NWSL season will begin on March 16 away from home against the North Carolina Courage, and Kizer and the Dash will keep working towards their goals. On March 23 at Shell Energy Stadium versus Racing Louisville FC, fans can see Kizer back in orange. You may get tickets here for the home opener.
