The Buddies boss was left bemused why VAR didn’t even look at the flashpoint involving Ross County’s Ryan Leak.
Angry St. Mirren manager Stephen Robinson said that VAR failed to even investigate a “blatant handball” committed by Ryan Leak.
In Dingwall, the Buddies rallied for a late point, but if they had been given a penalty in the first half, it could have been all three. After St Mirren had fallen behind to a goal by Jordan White, Toyosi Olusanya came off the substitute to win a draw for the team. Robinson stated: “I think it wasn’t checked for the handball, as there was a clear handball.” That was before to the foul, so I’m not sure why that would be. Although I have no influence over it, it appears quite clear based on what we’ve been shown and informed.
The Northern Irishman commended Alex Gogic for displaying grit following his early error and his side for recovering. “We weren’t at the top of our game; there were three or four players who weren’t as good as they had been recently,” Robinson continued. However, we had incredible fortitude to rally and win a point; with the final chance, it could have been three.
Our start wasn’t great. Although we made a mistake that was really out of Alex’s normal, he had a terrific mentality to play the way he did afterwards. Our error allowed Ross County to score with their lone effort on goal. However, we didn’t play to our full potential. When the substitutes started, they really gave us a boost. We would be very happy if we could win seven points this week; a point won away from home is a point gained.
Don Cowie, the manager of Ross County, agreed that the late goal meant two points were lost. “It was two points lost, especially when you’re leading with five minutes remaining,” he remarked. Even though it wasn’t the best game or effort from us, you have to win when you’re up at that point.
“I felt our defence held up really well until the goal. It’s frustrating because St. Mirren is a really strong club with a lot of guys who can harm you, but I felt like we kept them quite quiet.
“We added a point to achieve the goal we set out to accomplish before the game on Saturday: to build.” Thus, taking four out of six is a positive move, and we now aim to add to that against Hibs.
