Josh Roberts, 28, said he’s cried all weekend following the ‘heartbreaking’ discovery in Moffatt Close
A St Ann’s resident remembers the horrifying night he discovered his neighbor’s death close to his house. Josh Roberts, 28, claimed he hasn’t been able to sleep since the revelation and that he has “cried all weekend.”
Mr. Roberts characterised the man as a “good man” and “friendly, normal” individual who didn’t cause issues. The man was known locally as David and was estimated to be in his 50s. Mr. Roberts recounted having a “good conversation” with his neighbour on Thursday afternoon, March 7, who appeared “healthy and fine” and showed no indications of a problem.
Mr Roberts, who saw the man’s body as he came outside to pick up his takeaway, said: “As I was getting closer, I realised who it was. It’s crazy, I can understand someone dying but the way he was left traumatised me.
“You only see stuff like this in horror films, not on your doorstep. It broke my heart because I wanted to help but didn’t know what to do. I’ve had no rest since and I’ve cried all over the weekend.
“I’m just sorry for him, he didn’t deserve to die. I had to walk away at one point because I just couldn’t take it anymore.”
At 1.40 am on Friday, March 8, the man’s body was discovered in a residential parking lot close to a building of apartments in Moffatt Close. For now, the man’s death is being investigated as “unexplained.”
Monday, March 11, saw the maintenance of a police cordon in Moffat Close, with a police car positioned there while the inquiry is ongoing.
Mr. Roberts also talked about how, these days, he is too afraid and suspicious to go out, particularly at night and by himself. “I can’t trust anyone anymore; you should be careful who you associate with in this day and age,” he declared.
“We were instructed to simply carry on with our daily lives, but how can I do that after discovering my neighbour dead on the ground?” just outside? I used to take my dog down there at midnight but I now take her out early, I’m just scared.”
Mr. Roberts continued, “It has been made even more painful by David’s death because one of his other neighbours passed away from cancer last year.” He also remembered how David was “the most quiet of guys” when they had lived together in shared housing in the past.
Detective Inspector Clare Gibson had previously stated: “On Friday, March 8, at 1.40 am, officers were called to Moffatt Close in St Ann’s in response to a complaint of a sudden death. The death of a guy was discovered in a residential parking lot, and an investigation is presently in progress. We are now treating his death as unexplained.”
