Man in sex assault on woman in wheelchair at St Mary’s Hospital

On February 6, as a porter wheeled the female patient back to a ward at St Mary’s Hospital, 35-year-old Mukhtar Jama approached her, according to testimony given in court.
Asking if she was alright, he took her right hand and kissed it before he leaned in and touched her breasts.

Following a call to the hospital on Praed Street in Paddington, Jama, of Pinkwell Lane in Hayes, was taken into custody and subsequently entered a guilty plea to charges of sexual assault.

On Tuesday, March 5, he showed up in the dock at Southwark Crown Court for his sentencing.

Jama has four prior convictions for sexual assault, the court was informed.

“All of these prior incidents involved similar conduct, groping complete strangers in public places,” Judge Christopher Hehir stated. One of the earlier instances happened in a hospital as well.

According to Rebecca Martin, Jama’s attorney, Jama was involved in a car accident in 2019 that resulted in brain injury.

After that incident, Jama performed three of his four acts of sexual assault.

According to Ms. Martin, Jama lacks consequential thinking due to brain injury.

Although Jama’s life had undergone significant alterations as a result of the head injury, Judge Hehir stated that there is evidence that he keeps his composure.

“You knew what you were doing and you knew what you were doing was wrong,” Judge Hehir stated.

After determining that Jama’s menace to women required an immediate jail sentence, he sentenced him to one year in prison.
