DARREN GOUGH STEPS DOWN FROM ROLE AS MANAGING DIRECTOR OF CRICKET

The Yorkshire County Cricket Club (YCCC) can confirm that Darren Gough has stepped down from his role as Managing Director of Cricket.

After a particularly trying time for the Club, Gough took over in December 2021 and went on to assemble a youthful and talented team. The former fast bowler for Yorkshire and England has guided the team through some challenging times, hired several outstanding support personnel, and oversaw improvements in the pathways.

Gough stated: “Working for my boyhood Club for the past two seasons has been an absolute honour.”

“We’ve worked hard to calm the ship and build our cricket department to guarantee we can return to the top rung of English cricket after coming in at a very difficult period.

We have accomplished a lot during my tenure here, and I am proud of it. The men’s team has undergone a complete overhaul, and every support component has had major advancements made in the background. The men’s team and the Northern Diamonds are now in a far stronger position to compete in the future as a result of this.

“There is a genuine enthusiasm surrounding what is occurring with the women’s game, and I’m sure the next few years will be transformative. The performance route is prospering and continues to lead the way nationally.

“After speaking with the Club, I’ve determined that this is the ideal moment for me to leave my position and give someone else the chance to lead our playing squads. Ideally, I would like to We would like to express our gratitude to all of the players, coaches, members, and supporters for their tremendous support over the past few seasons and wish them the best for the upcoming one.

“I will always be a fan of Yorkshire Cricket, and I’m excited to come back and watch our teams in the years to come.”

YCCC CEO Stephen Vaughan stated: “Since assuming this position, working with Darren has been an absolute pleasure.
“He has been instrumental in stabilising the Club and propelling our playing squads ahead, and I am confident that, as a Yorkshireman who is infatuated with our Club, he has taken great pride in fulfilling this duty. We are really appreciative of Darren’s time, dedication, and the way he has approached his work over the past two seasons, as it has laid some wonderful foundations.

Colin Graves, YCCC Chair said: “I’d like to express our sincere thanks to Darren for the work he has put in over the last few seasons.

“Darren is a legend within the Club, having played for us twice with great success and now supporting us as Managing Director of Cricket during some extremely trying times.

We at the Club hope that he has a bright career and are excited to have him return to Headingley in the near future.

Given how quickly the cricket world is evolving—including the current application process for a Tier 1 women’s professional team—the Club will now take some time to think through the best organisational structure for the cricket department that will best enable YCCC to maintain its position as a leader both on and off the pitch.
