Kieran Foran asserts that the Gold Coast can achieve great things under new coach Des Hasler and claims to be in the best physical form of his career.
The 33-year-old will start at No. 6 against his old team, Canterbury, at Belmore on Saturday after recovering from a hamstring injury that prevented him from playing in the 28-4 round one loss to St George Illawarra.
“I am really positive about our hopes and chances of achieving something great this season,” Foran told the Associated Press.
“It seems like the playing team has been together for a few years, having gone through some really trying times and s***. That strengthens character and resilience.
Every powerful and prosperous club has experienced that at some point during their histories.”
Under Hasler, Foran has played some of his best football, and he stated that the rest of the team will perform similarly.
Although the Titans haven’t triumphed in an NRL finals game since 2010, Foran, who won the 2011 title at Manly under Hasler, believes the team is ready to succeed under the new coach.
With the coaching staff in place, none more crucial than Des at the head, we are in a really good position,” Foran stated.
“Since entering the building four months ago, he has been able to produce really energetic work.
“For this group, it has changed the game, but it has required a lot of hard work.
“I haven’t visited this club in a long time, but I’ve seen enough in my professional life. I would be lying if I said anything different than that I am really excited about the season.”
In an interview with the media on Thursday afternoon at Gold Coast Airport, Foran expressed satisfaction with his own physical state.
I had an excellent training week. I worked out for the entire day today and on Tuesday,” Foran stated.
“My preseason has gone really well. Before the first round, I felt good about my body, but I wasn’t quite there.
“Over the last week and a half, I have responded really well, and receiving a bye in round two has helped.”
“I am feeling as good as I have ever felt.”
The round one loss, he claimed, was an anomaly.
We were able to reassess a few aspects of our areas for improvement,” Foran said.
“There’s a really positive vibe among the boys. We’re game for it. It’s time to get out there and get the job done.
We are aware of the type of football team we are. Although we weren’t happy with our performance in the first round, we shouldn’t let that bother us this week.”
When Foran last faced the Bulldogs in round 27 of the previous season, he scored a hat-trick.
