Rangers miss millions after new Ibrox development in March*

Despite controlling the game the entire way, Philippe Clement’s team was eliminated from the Europa League in a 1-0 loss to Benfica at Ibrox earlier in March.

He exclusively told Ibrox News, “It’s a blow.”

We are aware that the Europa League prize money is far less than that of the Champions League, but if you go far in the competition—that is, through the elimination stages—you might win up to £10 million in prizes if you make it all the way to the championship game.

In that sense, Rangers has suffered financially. I suppose the other blow is what this means for Scottish football in terms of Champions League spots, which is represented by the Scottish coefficient.

“If you follow through on that, the opposing viewpoint is that Rangers could be able to concentrate entirely on winning the league, which is a legitimate point of contention. Returning to the Champions League proper at this point would be a very favourable result at the end of the season.
