Saints holds the key to top six place, but will be raging about Killie hammering, says Well boss..

Stuart Kettlewell reckons St Mirren will be raging about their 5-2 defeat to Kilmarnock a fortnight ago – and his Motherwell side could be in the firing line.

But Kettlewell says St Mirren are one of three games that can hold the key to his side grabbing a Premiership top-six slot.

On March 16, Saints were leading 2-0 and looked to be coasting at Rugby Park when Killie stormed back with five goals in an eighteen-minute period.

Kettlewell predicts a reaction from the Paisley team even if his team has a strong opportunity to win three points going into the game.

He stated: “We prepare ourselves for the best version of St. Mirren, and we know it’s going to be a difficult game. I think that the 5-2 result becomes a wee bit false for St. Mirren in their last outing, in comparison to where they’ve been all season.”

They’ve been quite tight, so that will be us heading into the fourth game of the season. We played them in the cup.

You’re comparing the two teams, who play somewhat similar styles, to each other.

“It’s two teams that, in my opinion, are fairly well-drilled and organised, and you could make arguments for and against who should win the games throughout the season.”

“We are really close, very tight, and I don’t think anything separates us.

“I believe that we felt like we were the team that was really on the rise in this last game, and we played the better football of the day.”

“We were disappointed that St. Mirren won 1-0, but it’s also true that the games played at St. Mirren Park have been very tight.

“Given that, I believe that gives you a good idea of what we’re looking at on Saturday.”
