Andre Breitenreiter statement after Coventry City sink Huddersfield..n the day.

The German coach watched as the Sky Blues raced into a 2-0 lead inside the opening 22 minutes with Simms bagging both goals at the John Smith’s Stadium. And although the Terriers mounted a second half fight-back, helped by being gifted a goal from a poor pass out from City keeper Brad Collins which enabled Rhys Healey to pull a goal back and spark a nervous end to the game,

The 50-year-old manager stated, “We had a good start and Josh Koroma’s first big chance on a one-on-one situation (with the custodian) and we should’ve taken the lead then.”

“They came from behind to win 1-0, and you have to play with confidence when you are at the bottom of the standings. We discussed at halftime that we had lost too many individual duels in the first half and that you cannot win when you lose too many duels.

“We made far too many mistakes. To be honest, we practiced box defending for the last twelve days, but Coventry scored easily on the first and third goals in one-on-one situations, which we need to improve on in defence. They defended with their lives, and we attempted to do the same, but we failed to block, and it was too simple. All of our shots in their area were blocked.

“And perhaps a player like Simms’ ability to score two goals with ease made the difference tonight. In the identical scenario, we had numerous opportunities, but they scored and we didn’t.

He went on, “Normally, you never have a chance to come back when you are down 2-0 against a strong opponent like Coventry, but I thought we were more positive about the second half and knew that one goal can change many things. It was really good to see the team’s morale was there, and they played more bravely offensively when we hit the crossbar in the second half.

“And then we scored, the replacements played brilliantly, and we had the fans.”
