EFL Decision To Deduct Reading Points Countered by The FA

Could the three points the Royals gained on Good Friday be lost?

This season, Reading has faced an extremely tough relegation battle, and sadly, things are going to get even harder. There will be another deduction of points for the Royals, according to some very credible sources who, for whatever reason, chose to speak exclusively to us at The Tilehurst End.

When contacted for comment, an EFL representative stated:

“Naturally, we were dismayed to see the disgraceful scenes at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on 29 March 2023. The EFL utterly condemns that behaviour in no uncertain terms and, as a result, was left with no other option but to impose a sporting sanction on Reading Football Club.”

The EFL spokesperson clarified that they meant “the bit when the referee blew the full-time whistle and Reading won” when asked to elaborate on the behaviour they were referring to.

“Reading Football Club winning games and staying away from the relegation places is intolerable. It… um, err… something about sporting integrity.”

“The EFL will not hesitate to act accordingly. That is, unless other clubs in the division don’t like that course of action, in which case the EFL will do the opposite.”

The EFL representative was informed by The Tilehurst End that Reading Football Club has already lost eighteen points since November 2021 due to relegation and a plethora of off-field issues. As an answer, the EFL stated:

“The EFL continues to acknowledge the negative impact sporting sanctions are having on the Football Club. It remains extremely disappointed and frustrated at the Club’s reluctance to let its situation get even worse by being relegated a second time.”

It is currently thought that the entire upfront penalty is just three points. On Easter Monday, though, if Reading wins at Bolton Wanderers, a three-point deduction will be suspended.

This publication put pressure on the EFL to guarantee that Reading won’t lose any more points as a result of this one. The representative responded, “no, definitely not, deeeeeefinitely not,” then winked suspiciously excessively and actually said, “wink wink,” aloud.
