COUNTDOWN TO KICK-OFF | DERBY WEEK..

Our boys in blue are now three matches unbeaten as they continue their charge towards the end of the season.

Last week’s win against Perth Glory has moved Tony Popovic’s side up to this on the Isuzu UTE A-League table with four matches to go.

Bruno Fornaroli showed once again why he’s the league’s best strike after scoring a brace against his former side to regain his lead at the top of the Golden Boot race.

We now focus on Saturday, 6 April, in preparation for the Melbourne Derby.

Following a Tuesday night setback to the Central Coast Mariners, City is currently four points out of the championship.

Both of our previous meetings with City resulted in 0-0 draws, and both sides were keen to defeat the other.

“We haven’t scored any goals in two draws. We would prefer it if we scored the goals, not if they did,” Tony Popovic said to the reporters following Sunday’s victory.

We have scored two goals in each of the last four games. Thus, we’re beginning to, you know, strike the back of the net more frequently and receive further compensation for the opportunities we’re generating.

“We want the stadium to be packed because this is our home game and we know these are rare, unique games. them’s an honour to be a part of them. Our goal is to create maximum difficulty for our opponent both on the pitch and in the stands. The three points are what we desire.

ACADEMY RETURN TO ACTION

This weekend, our Senior Academy team will play their first VPL1 matchup against Werribee City.

The Melbourne Victory Academy has had a great start to things at both the Senior and Junior Academy levels throughout the first two months of the 2024 VPL/NPL season. Damir Kulas, the manager of Academy Operations, gives an update on everything Academy-related in the first of a planned series of articles.

The Senior Academy, which was formerly known as NPL2, has had an incredible debut in VPL1. After an unbeaten season in which they have accumulated 17 points from seven games with a goal differential of +13, they are currently atop the league.

The month of February began with two solid away victories against Northcote City (3-1) and Preston Lions (2-0). Then, a draw against Bentleigh Greens (1-1) concluded the month.

After games against the Eastern Lions (2-0), North Geelong Warriors (4-0), Caroline Springs George Cross (0-0), and most recently Melbourne City (3-0) in March, the club has yet to give up a goal in 360 minutes of football.
