Michael Mols, a former Rangers player, has disclosed that he underwent brain surgery in Amsterdam.
Mols, who played for the Scottish giants from 1999 to 2004, announced the shocking news in an Instagram post.
Following his operation, the 52-year-old published a selfie of himself resting in a hospital bed with a bandage over his head.
Mols is also visible in the snap with two thumbs up, indicating that the Dutchman is staying positive.
The former striker thanked the hospital workers for their attention.
‘Brain tumor surgery completed!’ Mols put pen to paper. ‘The next phase is healing, giving your all, and remaining positive!’
‘Thank you to everyone at Amsterdam UMC who took care of me or looked after me!
Mols had a good tenure at Rangers, scoring 45 goals in 126 games after signing from Dutch club Utrecht in 1999.
He won the Scottish Premier League with the Gers in 2000 and 2003, when Dick Advocaat and Alex McLeish were in charge.
Mols also won two Scottish Cups and the Scottish League Cup, scoring 14 goals in all competitions as Rangers completed the domestic treble in 2003.
The striker, who represented the Netherlands six times, returned to Utrecht in 2004.
Peter Lovenkrands, who played with Mols at Rangers, was among those who expressed their condolences.
‘Stay strong my friend, thoughts are with you, and best wishes for a swift recovery,’ Lovenkrands added.
‘Get better soon, my friend,’ Pedro Mendes, another Rangers fan, wrote.
Mols and Mendes had met while competing in a six-a-side Masters Football event in Glasgow.
Among the Gers luminaries are Roy Carroll, Alan Hutton, Carlos Cuellar, Lee McCulloch, Barry Ferguson, and Kris Boyd.
