Stephen Ramsay tried to murder Lisa Donaldson, stabbing her in the neck.

An extended jail sentence has been imposed on a man who stabbed his heavily pregnant fiancée in the neck, resulting in the loss of their unborn twins.

Five years into his five-year prison sentence for attempting to kill Lisa Donaldson, Stephen Ramsay was given an additional five months at Perth Sheriff Court.

Ramsay, who was already given a lifelong restriction order for the murder bid, received the further punishment after being discovered using an illegal SIM card while incarcerated.

Using a video link to represent himself, 40-year-old Ramsay stated, “My phone system wasn’t working.” After having a stroke, my dad is in a care facility, so I thought it was important to stay in touch with him.”

Sheriff Neil Bowie stated: “Given your record of significant convictions and your status of serving currently, custodial is the only appropriate sentence.” After giving Ramsay a consecutive five-month sentence, he said, “Have a lovely day now.”

Ramsay was made subject to an Order for Lifelong Restriction at Aberdeen High Court, meaning he will only ever be freed if considered no longer a danger to the public.

He launched a “frenzied” attack on 32-week pregnant Ms Donaldson after wrongly accusing her of taking money he had obtained by posing as a homeless beggar on the streets of Edinburgh.

On February 23, 2019, police knocked in the door of their Glenrothes, Fife, house and discovered 40-year-old Ms. Donaldson with a slashed throat and Ramsay crouching on top of her, choking her.

She was “almost unrecognisable” due to facial swelling and bruises, and every time she attempted to breathe, blood spurted from her neck.

The victim required CPR administered by paramedics and the police, who were recognised with an award for their efforts, after their heart stopped twice.

After being taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy while unresponsive, she underwent an emergency caesarian section and was put into a medically-induced coma. Nevertheless, her blood loss had already claimed the lives of the twins, a girl and a boy.
