Police launch murder investigation after officers called to assault

A 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident

A murder inquiry has been opened after a man died in Sutton-in-Ashfield. Nottinghamshire Police were called to a property in Northfield Close, Sutton-in-Ashfield, at 12.55 a.m. on Friday, December 1, after receiving complaints of an attack.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered a 76-year-old male with injuries. Emergency personnel performed CPR, but the man was pronounced dead at 2.05 a.m.

Police say his next of kin has been notified and is being assisted by professional police. A 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in relation to the event.

Detective Inspector Mel Crutchley from Nottinghamshire Police said: “Our heartfelt condolences are with this man’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“While our investigation is still in its early stages, we are treating this as an isolated incident. Those involved are known to each other. Our inquiries are ongoing, and we would urge anyone with information or any witnesses who are yet to speak with us to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 16 of 1 December 2023, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
