Lincoln City Foundation hosted their inaugural Community World Cup at the LNER Stadium on Saturday 4 May with 18 different teams from various cultures and backgrounds going head-to-head in a 6-a-side tournament.
Every team represented a distinct neighborhood, and the event was a wonderful celebration of the local area’s variety.
A day centered on uniting locals from diverse backgrounds brought together representatives from East Timor, Nigeria, Ghana, and Poland.The John Dauber Trust and the City of Lincoln Council Community Chest Fund, which provided funding to assist in organizing this community event, made the day possible.
The Lincoln City Foundation, Lincoln City Football Club, the City of Lincoln Council, LEAN, and the University of Lincoln were among the organizations that played a crucial role in making the event possible.
Head of the Foundation’s sport and physical activity division Daniel Carter said: “Powered by football’s global appeal, the first Community World Cup was a powerful display of unity and diversity.”

“Going forward, we’re dedicated to supporting initiatives like these that promote inclusivity and unity in our community, making use of sport’s special power and integrating new groups with Lincoln City Football Club.”
“By funding events like the Community World Cup through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, we aim to improve local life and foster community togetherness,” stated Paul Carrick, the neighborhood manager at City of Lincoln Council.
“We made sure there was worldwide representation because of LEAN, the City Council’s Neighbourhood Teams, and their relationships.
The football game and the ambiance of the occasion demonstrated how it can bring people together and create bonds. We are excited to support this event and hope to get involved again in the future.
The day after defeating team Mosque, the Arab community’s team emerged victorious.
One of the main organizers of the event and a representative of the Arabic School for All, Inam Ibrahim, expressed her happiness with the day’s outcome, saying, “The tournament has been brilliant – we have been waiting for this day for a long time.”
“This event’s primary goal is to unite the community and bring everyone together.” I would like to express my gratitude to the Lincoln City Foundation for their outstanding work in bringing together many communities—not just today, but every day.
Inam Ibrahim, a representative of the Arabic School for All and one of the key organisers of the event, expressed her delight at the success of the day, “The tournament has been brilliant – we have been waiting for this day for a long time.
“The main purpose of this event is to bring everyone together and unite the community. I want to say thank you to Lincoln City Foundation for doing an amazing job at uniting different communities not just today, but all the time.”
In an effort to strengthen community cohesion, Lincoln City Foundation also made use of the Premier League Fans Fund to interact with these ethnically diverse groups, who are frequently underrepresented in the Imps fan base.
To demonstrate their support for the significant community event, teams from the Lincolnshire Police Department and the University of Lincoln Women’s Football Society also participated.
“For us it’s a fantastic opportunity to represent Lincolnshire Police and get involved with a lot of the communities that were present,” said PC Callum McDonald, manager of the Lincs Police FC club, about why he thought Lincolnshire Police had to take part.
Callum continued, “Events like this give us the opportunity to engage with our teammates outside of our regular duties.”
