Wolves want record fee for key Newcastle summer target

The Midlands-based company had a season in 2023–2024 that was probably predicted considering that it had to sell several important players a year earlier in order to maintain its Financial Fair Play compliance.

If Newcastle decides to splash the cash on a new signing or two, that may be a problem, and Eddie Howe might have to let go of at least one high-profile player to depart the titans of the North East.

Newcastle is pursuing Pedro Neto of Wolves.
The Magpies will need to win in 2024–2025 if they want to stop making one stride forward and two steps back every season. However, Howe must make stronger moves wherever he can instead of giving in to the temptation to sell one of his best players in order to accomplish this.

That might actually be the case, though, as might the inability to sign targets if their asking prices are high enough for clubs that might be prepared to let them go.

Wolves are in the position where they don’t have to sell any players after their mini fire sale this time last year, but they have still put a price on Pedro Neto’s head indicating that they would cash in if interested parties came up with the money.

The club would accept a record £60 million bid, with Newcastle and Man City apparently in the running, according to The Telegraph (subscription required).

Wolves are not in a strong enough position to be able to turn down that kind of money, if it comes along, even if any sale will probably harm the team.

Since Wolves manager Gary O’Neil has already demonstrated his diligence in the transfer market, it is reasonable to assume that any funds received will be carefully reinvested.
