Oli McBurnie is facing an uncertain future this summer, with overseas interest in his services
In the summer transfer window, Trabzonspor is interested in signing Oli McBurnie, a striker for Sheffield United.
According to a report from Turkish publication Milliyet, the Super Lig side see the Scotsman as a less expensive target than some of their other options. After just one season back in the top division of English football, Bramall Lane was relegated from the Premier League, raising the possibility of a summer of upheaval at the stadium.
Numerous players have already declared their intention to leave Bramall Lane upon the expiration of their contracts in the summer.
McBurnie, on the other hand, seems to have other choices if he wants to go on, although he faces an uncertain future with the Blades.
As things stand, McBurnie’s contract with Sheffield United is set to expire this summer. That would of course, mean he is able to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the month
However, the club has acknowledged that talks over a possible new contract are still going on with the 27-year-old.
But it appears like they might have competition from other teams, as this most recent report suggests Trabzonspor are interested in the striker.According to reports, the Turkish team believes McBurnie is a less expensive choice than Paul Onuachu, who has been on loan from Southampton to Trabzonspor for the season.
Onuachu is reportedly worth €15 million to the Saints, which is more than the €12 million Trabzonspor are rumored to be willing to spend for him.
Because of this, if Trabzonspor cannot afford to sign Onuachu, it is believed that they would attempt to sign McBurnie this summer on a free transfer.
Trabzonspor, which placed third in the Turkish premier division this year, will play in the Europa League qualifying stages next year.
In 159 appearances across all competitions for the South Yorkshire team, McBurnie has scored 29 goals after joining Sheffield United for a reputed £17 million in the summer of 2019.
According to earlier reports, Antalyaspor, another top-tier Turkish team, is also eager to sign the Scot this summer on a free transfer.
You get the feeling there may be some concern among those at Bramall Lane about these claims of interest in McBurnie from elsewhere.
The fact they are still in discussions with him suggests they want to keep the striker, and Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has hinted as much with some of his recent comments.
However, his contract situation means that things are out of their control when it comes to the future of the striker, who is now free to choose who he speaks to, and ultimately signs for.
