Majority shareholder and chairman Shilen Patel recently penned an open letter, thanking fans for their support but revealing the difficulties set to face the club in the transfer market.
Albion have waved goodbye to Premier League parachute payments for the first time in two decades, creating a precarious outlook. Patel has performed wonders to pay off the debts from the Wisdom Smart loan but the Baggies are on track to record significant losses for a third successive year.
To put it briefly, this means that in order to maximize the flexibility we currently have or can generate in the market, we will need to be resourceful, methodical, and flexible. Although replenishing a team is never simple, Patel went on, “this summer is also an opportunity to build a foundational sporting philosophy and practices for long-term success.”
West Brom see several senior players depart
Due to this circumstance, West Brom is struggling to maintain compliance with the Championship’s sustainability and profit requirements. Though transfer finances are still extremely low, it was revealed in the spring that seven senior players would be leaving The Hawthorns upon the expiration of their contracts in order to reduce costs.
Matt Phillips tops the list of players saying goodbye, having played 255 games for Albion and scoring 62 goals during that time. Although new contracts have been extended to Cedric Kipre, Alex Mowatt, Kyle Bartley, and Nathaniel Chalobah, Yann M’Vila, Adam Reach, Erik Pieters, Martin Kelly, and Jovan Malcolm, they will all be leaving as well.
Albion set for double transfer failure
The situation has apparently gotten worse due to the impending departure of two important players. Due to financial constraints, West Brom is unable to offer higher salary, which will hurt the team’s prospects of keeping the two players.
Alright, Yokuşlu’s contract with Albion is still valid for one year, but Trabzonspor of the Süper Lig has already started negotiations to sign him. The midfield player, who represented the Turkish team from 2015 to 2018, might have a romantic comeback. Additionally, Trabzonspor has started talks with Kipre, the standout center defender for West Brom. As previously said, a new agreement is on the table, but it might be impossible to decline a sizable offer from elsewhere.
