Ready for new chapter at Barrow AFC

The 23-year-old has joined the Bluebirds on an initial one-year deal, but the club does have the option to extend that for a further 12 months.

A highly-rated prospect the youngster has had injury problems during his last few seasons, and is looking to kick-on having made the move to Cumbria.

He told the club’s official website: “I think it’s the right time in my career to make a fresh start and it’s the perfect club for me to make this fresh start at.

“We want to push higher up the league, and I’m really excited to be a part of that,” said Iain, the sporting director of Wood Barrow AFC, and the other members of the staff.

“I’m thrilled to be here. I think this is a great club to sign for, and I’ve been watching it carefully for the past few seasons because some of my friends play here. But I’m really excited to get it over the finish line.”
Barnes’ twelve-year affiliation with his hometown team, Blackburn Rovers, comes to an end with this departure.

Barnes started his career in the Ewood Park junior system and made his debut in the first squad during their Carabao Cup victory against Walsall the previous year.

Despite being limited to just one first-team appearance, the once-promising youngster from Rovers was included in the Lancashire side’s Championship matchday squad.

His progress has been hindered over the last two seasons by thigh and ACL injuries, which have kept him out of action for the most of the previous two campaigns.

When asked what the Bluebirds’ supporters may anticipate from him, he replied, “I consider myself to be a center-back who plays the ball.”

“I enjoy playing passes through the lines, but I also like to take charge of the game, win headers, and lead by example.”

After Connor Mahoney signed this summer, Barnes is the second former Blackburn player to sign.
