Wakefield Trinity gives verdict on his team

The visitors to the DIY Kitchens Stadium have improved since Powell’s men beat them 34-14 at Batley in April and come into the game off the back of an impressive come from behind 24-16 victory at Widnes Vikings where Wakefield struggled a little.

They have had many an unexpected victory in the past, but they will go up against a Trinity team that demonstrated all of the game’s elements at Barrow.

“We talked before the game about it being an attitude performance and I thought we did that, particularly when we were down to 12 men then down to 11 and we kept them out with how hard we worked for each other,” said Trinity boss Powell.

“It was pleasing from lots of aspects.

“It was scrappy at times, but ultimately it’s about getting the win and for us to keep them scoreless was pretty pleasing.

“We were under pressure a lot, but we got ourselves 16-0 in front at half-time and then I just thought we went on with it after half-time.

“We took some really good opportunities and we were really disciplined when we got into good attacking positions.”

Powell went on, “In the end, we had a good victory, and the zero at any point in the game is good.”Before the game, I had pushed the boys to tighten up our defense a little bit. We’ve given up a lot of points lately, so I thought it was amazing that we were able to maintain that level of defense under some serious pressure.”

While all is going on, Trinity is focusing on next year and has been actively recruiting. According to recruitment manager Ste Mills, they have signed Cameron Scott and Olly Russell for 2025, and there are still more to come.

“We still have a lot more to announce,” he stated. Not only are we still working on a few items, but we’re four or five players away from what we’ve already acquired that hasn’t been revealed.

“We think we’re assembling a pretty good team for next year, so it’s an exciting moment for everyone,”
