Man, 45, arrested after woman sexually assaulted in horror attack in Oldham park

A man has been arrested after a woman was sexually assaulted in a horrific attack in a park in Oldham. Police were called to Alexandra Park at around 11pm on Monday (July 15).

The victim disclosed she had been sexually assaulted, and an investigation was launched by Greater Manchester Police. The force also issued a public appeal for witnesses to trace the suspect.

A man, aged 45, has since been arrested on suspicion of rape. He remains in custody to be questioned.

After the incident, police confirmed they had increased officer patrols in the area, as they warned people to ‘avoid the park at night’

Detective Inspector Kevin Johnston said: “I want local residents to know that we take all reports of sexual assaults incredibly seriously and I hope this quick arrest demonstrates our commitment to protecting the local community and taking action.

“The park will have extra officers in the area for the coming days and members of the public should use the area as they normally would. There is no wider risk and those officers are simply there to provide assistance should you have any queries or concerns. They will be more than happy to assist you wherever they can.
