Road closed as man dies after two-car collision

A man in his 60s has died after a two-car collision in Louth on Tuesday morning.

At around 8.50am, gardaí were called to the R166 at Annagassan in Dunleer where two cars had collided.

The driver of the first car, a man aged in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He is the 103rd person to be killed on Irish roads so far in 2024.

His body has been removed from the scene to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

The driver of the second car, a female in her 40s, was airlifted from the scene to the Mater Hospital, where she is receiving treatment for serious injuries.

The road remains closed at this time, with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

A statement said: “Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Ardee Garda Station on 041 685 3222, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
