Blackburn Rovers secure signing of experienced centre-back

Danny Batth, an experienced defender, has signed a one-year contract with Blackburn Rovers that runs through June 2025. This is the club’s second centre-back acquisition in as many days, after Kyle McFadzean’s return.

After leaving Norwich City at the end of the previous campaign, 33-year-old Batth signs on a free transfer. He joins Makhtar Gueye, Yuki Ohashi, Exaucé Mafoumbi, and McFadzean as the fifth player the Rovers have signed this summer.

With more than 200 appearances, Batth helped Wolves win the 2014 League One Championship and the 2018 Championship. Additionally, he spent time on loan at Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday, Colchester United, and Sheffield United.

After moving to Stoke City in January 2019, Batth became the team’s captain and made 100 league appearances. Later on, he moved to Sunderland, where he helped the team get promoted to the Championship.

He was voted Sunderland’s Player of the Season for 2022–2023 after helping the team defeat Wycombe Wanderers in the League One play-off final at Wembley.
Last summer, Batth’s career with Norwich City continued, as he assisted the Canaries in earning a play-off spot.
