Derby County nears agreement for star target

If Derby County is to stay in the Championship and not be relegated, they will require every bit of assistance.

The Rams qualified for England’s second division for the upcoming season by placing second in League One in 2023–2024.

After missing out on two seasons of the Championship, Derby County is predicted to be one of the favourites to win the league in 2024–2025.

Paul Warne has been involved in the summer transfer market to try and stop this.

David Ozoh, Derby’s most recent acquisition, has drawn compliments for his performance in the team’s most recent friendly match, which took place on July 31 against Barnsley.

Warne praised Kayden Jackson, another new arrival at Pride Park this summer, in the same tie.

All told, Derby has added seven new players to their first team thus far: two center-forwards, one winger, and four midfielders.

However, the Derby manager is still looking to add even more players this summer as they get ready to move up to the Championship.

Paul Warne confirms Derby County transfer discussion

Elliot Embleton, a midfielder for Sunderland, is a target for Derby, but League One team Blackpool is a rival.

Although Sheffield Wednesday and Portsmouth are still interested in Karamoko Dembele, the Rams are leading the race for the player.

And now, before the transfer window closes, a new target might be headed to Derbyshire.

Derbyshire Live reports that Warne is looking to bolster his striker roster and has spoken to one club about a player who is reportedly in the Premier League.

Warne claimed that the player in question would “improve them massively,” but a deal is unlikely to be finalised in time for Derby’s opening day on 9 August.

“This week, I spoke with a club about a player I really want to sign,” he stated.

“Even if I am permitted to sign him, I doubt that it would be completed in time for the season’s opening game, so I doubt that will occur.

“Another couple is on the verge of collapse, but I don’t have all the answers, and I am at the mercy of the teams concerned.”

Why Derby County may struggle without new signing

Derby has had trouble locating a talented striker capable of scoring more than 20 goals annually.

Despite finishing in second place, the Rams were tied for fifth place in League One at the end of 2023–2024.

Additionally, no player from the team placed in the top ten of League One’s top scorers during the previous season.

With 14 goals, James Collins came the closest, but at 33, he is not anticipated to score nearly as many goals in the Championship.

Although Jackson hasn’t played through the middle much in the preseason, he has looked good on the wings.

And while Warne may have wanted Jerry Yates to lead the line, he is suspended for Derby’s meeting with Blackburn Rovers.

As a result, the Rams will be short of striking options unless they can get a new name through the door before next weekend.
